We make Simplehire, so read this as one vendor's comparison. PhoneScreen.AI is an AI phone interviewer built for hourly hiring: candidates call a number from a link (or it calls them) and interview in any of 34 languages, for $4 for each completed screen after 10 free. Simplehire runs an AI voice interview in the candidate's browser with proctoring on every screen, at $2 to $5 per screen, and fits professional and technical roles that you submit to clients.
The format decides most of this. A phone call reaches anyone with a phone. A browser interview can record events during the interview, such as tab switches and pasted text.
Everything we say about PhoneScreen.AI comes from PhoneScreen.AI's own website, checked on 19 October 2026 and linked in the sources below.

When is PhoneScreen.AI the better choice?
PhoneScreen.AI is the better pick when:
- Your candidates apply from a phone, often between shifts. Its AI interviewer page says it doesn't offer video or web interviews because "a phone call is the one format they can always finish." For warehouse, care and hospitality orders, that usually matters more than browser checks.
- Your candidates speak many languages. Interviews run in 34 languages, from Spanish and Haitian Creole to Somali, Amharic and Khmer, and you read every transcript and score in English.
- You want it to call applicants. It can call new applicants within minutes of applying, and send texts before an outbound call and after a missed one. Calls and texts go to US and Canadian numbers.
- Your applicants come through Indeed or an ATS such as CareerPlug, Hireology, ApplicantPro or Workstream. Its integrations page lists all of them, and new applicants can start a screen automatically.
- You want to pay only for finished screens. Calls that never become an interview aren't charged.
Its staffing page comes with a temp-staffing template covering assignment type, target hourly rate, the last assignment, start date and certifications. Its responsible AI page also lists rules the employer can't switch off, such as the interviewer always saying it is an AI.
When is Simplehire the better choice?
Simplehire fits better when the role is remote or technical, and when the risk you're managing is the wrong person, or a helper, on the other end. A phone call can't show tab switches, pasted text or who else is in the room. Those are the signs a recruiter checks in remote IT placements, where proxy interviews are a regular problem (see how to spot a proxy interview).
- Every screen records integrity events. The interview runs in enforced full-screen, and leaving it, switching tabs, losing focus and pasting text are recorded with timestamps. Audio is recorded and alerts come with screenshots.
- You can add identity and environment checks per role. The ID check compares a government ID with a live face match before the interview. A paired second device gives a side-camera view of the candidate and their desk. Desktop proctoring has candidates close risky applications such as remote-desktop tools before supported Windows and Mac interviews.
- The screen goes deeper on technical roles. PhoneScreen.AI says it asks once for a concrete example when an answer is thin, and that it "is not a coding test or a video assessment." Simplehire's Adaptive tier adds follow-up questions that dig into the candidate's answers, and Advanced has an optional coding round, scored separately.
- The list price is lower. At 100 screens a month, Simplehire Basic costs $150 (with the 25 free screens) and Adaptive $300, against $400 for PhoneScreen.AI.
The report opens with a verdict, then skills demonstrated, strengths and areas to probe. A person reviews every alert and makes every hiring decision.
Where we fall short: Simplehire doesn't call candidates or take calls, and it has no ATS integrations today. If your candidates would rather take a phone call than open a link, PhoneScreen.AI is the better fit.
How do you test both?
Both tools let you start without a card, so a two-week pilot costs little.
- Pick reqs that fit each tool's strength: an hourly or temp order and a remote or technical role you'd submit to a client.
- Set up the same questions or required skills in both tools.
- Split each req's applicants between the tools so no candidate interviews twice.
- Track the completion rate, how long recruiters take to reach a decision, how many candidates you submit, and what clients say about them.
- For the remote role, note every integrity alert and whether it changed a decision.
You may end up using each tool for different orders. For more tools, see our guide to AI phone screening for staffing agencies, the roundup of AI screening tools and Simplehire pricing.
Frequently asked questions
How much does PhoneScreen.AI cost?
On 19 October 2026, PhoneScreen.AI charged $4 for each completed screen, with the first 10 screens free, no monthly fee and no card needed to start. Calls that go to voicemail, are missed or end before any questions aren't charged, and it offers volume pricing for teams screening hundreds a month.
Can Simplehire call candidates on the phone?
No. Simplehire sends the candidate a link, and the AI voice interview runs in their browser. That is what lets it record integrity events such as leaving full-screen, tab switches and paste attempts. If your candidates need to take the screen as a phone call, PhoneScreen.AI is built for that.
Which is better for temp and hourly staffing?
For local hourly, temp and temp-to-hire roles, PhoneScreen.AI is often the better fit: candidates call in from any phone, it can call new applicants, and it runs interviews in 34 languages. Simplehire fits better for professional, remote and technical roles that you submit to clients.
Which is cheaper per screen?
At list price, Simplehire Basic ($2) and Adaptive ($3) cost less than PhoneScreen.AI ($4 for each completed screen). Simplehire also includes 25 free Basic screens every month, while PhoneScreen.AI's 10 free screens are for getting started. PhoneScreen.AI doesn't charge for missed calls or voicemails, so ask each vendor how incomplete interviews are counted.
